Discuss the role that the presence of Hannah’s voice plays as a physical presence on the tapes. Is the impact the tapes have different from the impression a suicide note would have left? Why do you think she recorded and left the tapes? If her story had been recorded on CDs or MP3 files would the effect have been different?
- The impact the Tapes have ARE different from the impression a suicide note because the tapes explain why she did suicide and said the problems that each person that affected her. She recorded the tapes because she wanted people to realise that affecting someone in a harmful way, might make them commit suicide. she left it to make people realize about something they did to her. There would have been no effect on the CD’s because its just like passing on tapes but CD’s. For MP3, it would have been hard because if the files were on the computers, there would be an error in sending a file. They would also be afraid of the tapes when they are listening to it.
Great post, Anthony - I agree with you! I also think the tapes help bring in the idea of the quote "You can't rewind the past. All you can do is press play". Tapes have that rewind feature readily available to you but it's not as easy to do as, say, on mp3s and CDs. Not sure, but just my own two cents.
ReplyDeleteAlso - maybe the fact that tapes could not have been "doctored" and altered by a computer - the only way to record on a tape is from a microphone from the person creating it speaking onto the tapes. Brings a very "real" aspect of Hannah's voice to anyone who listens. By the way, have you listened to any of the tapes on the 13 reasons why page by the author?
