I think that the presence of Hannah’s voice telling the others why she killed herself has more of an impact because if the people on the list were to read a suicide note from Hannah it wouldn't feel the same.If you listen to all of Hannah’s tapes and realize that she is PERSONALLY telling you that you are the reason she killed herself you would get a different feeling if you were to read it in a note. The book says that Clay was absolutely shocked when he found out that Hannah was telling him that he was on the list of why she committed suicide. If Hanna would have recorded it on a MP3 file or CDs the people on the list wouldn't feel any differently. If it was on a tape or a CD or an MP3 file these people would still get her talking, her telling you why she is dead and why you are on there. I think she recorded and left the tapes because she wanted all 13 people to know why each and every one of them is on there and why they are all related. When you listen to Justin, then Alex, then Jessica then Tyler you understand why all of these people are on there. Alex did something because of Justin, Jessica did something because of Alex, and Tyler did something because of all of them. Most people wouldn't think about what they did to someone unless it causes them to kill themselves, some people might not even remember what they did, but when you hear from the person that committed suicide because of something you did... Well, I think anybody would be in absolute shock. Clay felt that what these people did was terrible, but when it was happening he didn't do anything he stayed hidden. He has no idea why he is on the list but I’m sure nobody on the list thought that they would be on there. When he listened to what she had to say about all of the different things she went through with these people he felt sorry for her, he felt that Hannah didn't deserve that. Clay stood to the side while all of this happened to her but he felt sorry for her. He did nothing but felt sorry for her, if he was really concerned I think he would've helped her. Hannah recorded the tapes for 13 reasons and Clay is one of them.
